When the last wand in existence falls into the hands of a boy who isn’t a wizard, he must find it a new owner, and confront terrifying forces intent on unleashing its power.
Synopsis
In the quiet English town of Gravelwood, magic is officially dead—feared, regulated, and all but erased after a catastrophe a century ago known only as Bad Magic. Wizards have been stripped of their power, real wands confiscated, and magic reduced to cheap plastic toys and shameful history.
But on Halloween night, something ancient awakens.
When a long-buried real wand resurfaces after a mysterious accident in a nearby field, it sets off a chain reaction that draws together a group of unlikely children—Leo Lockwood, a boy obsessed with a world he’s been told no longer exists; his sceptical best friend Danny; sharp-minded Advika; fearless Claire; and Leo’s younger sister Delilah. Their lives collide with the secretive Van Castle siblings, Edward and Miranda—children raised in the shadow of forbidden magic.
As strange forces stir across Gravelwood—witches moving in the dark, crops cursed, voices whispering on the wind—the children discover the truth: magic was never destroyed. It was buried. And now it’s choosing who can wield it.
When Leo becomes the only one able to hold the wand without being destroyed by it, he is unknowingly marked as its keeper—awakening powers that could either heal the past or repeat its darkest mistakes.
With authorities watching, old grudges resurfacing, and something far older than them all stirring beneath the town, the children are forced to ask:
What place, if any, does magic still hold in a world that fears it?
Bad Magic is a dark, funny, emotionally grounded fantasy series about legacy, responsibility, and the danger of suppressing power rather than understanding it—where magic doesn’t just test who is gifted, but who is worthy.
